About the Artist: Karen Collins grew up in a coal mining community in the mountains of Southwest Virginia. After hearing a Louisiana Cajun band at an old-time music festival In the early 80’s, Karen fell in love with the music and became determined to learn to play it. Since the early 90’s she has led the local Cajun band, Squeeze Bayou playing fiddle and singing in Cajun French. Karen also plays guitar and sings in two country groups, "Karen Collins & The Backroads Band" and "The Blue Moon Cowgirls".

Karen’s band, Squeeze Bayou plays traditional Cajun dance music, two-steps and waltzes. The CFMA awarded the band a "Prix Dehors de Nous" (Best Cajun band outside of Louisiana) for their CD "Steppin’ Fast".
