Ronn McFarlane (concert)

  • 19 Oct 2018
  • 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM
  • The Lyceum

Ronn McFarlane grew up in Maryland and has played the Renaissance lute for the Baltimore Consort since 1978. After touring the world playing early music, teaching at the Peabody Conservatory for 11 years, and earning both a Grammy nomination and an honorary Ph.D., he founded the folk-rock band Ayreheart. Their latest CD, Barley Moon, draws on the folk traditions of medieval and Renaissance England, Scotland, and Wales. As a virtuoso lutenist and composer, Ronn “strives to bring the lute — the most popular instrument of the Renaissance —into today’s musical mainstream and make it accessible to a wider audience.” This high-energy show will span more than half a millennium, from early music to Baroque to folk dance tunes to rock covers to acclaimed original compositions. At the Lyceum, 201 S. Washington St., Alexandria, Virginia 22314 (Metro: King Street, free trolley). $25/$10 members.
