Trio Sefardi combines the “compelling” [Washington Post] voice of Susan Gaeta (guitar) with expert instrumentalists Tina Chancey (kamenç, rebec, fiddle, viol) and Howard Bass (lute, guitar) to enchant audiences with the songs of the Sephardim. The trio’s repertoire draws on the song traditions of Sephardic communities from the Balkans, Turkey, and North Africa, with a special emphasis on songs they learned from their mentor, Flory Jagoda. Lori Şen, a Sephardic Turkish mezzo-soprano and Fulbright alumna, will join Trio Sefardi as their featured guest artist, and this concert will highlight repertoire from the eastern Mediterranean. Trio Sefardi is celebrating its 15thanniversary this year with a series of programs in the D.C. area and the release of Kinze Anyos/15 Years, an anthology of favorites from their four previous CDs.
