Hammered Dulcimers, East and West

Online • Sunday, June 20, 2021 • 7 pm • Concert starts at 7:30

Enjoy old and new music from Chinese and European traditions of hammered dulcimer playing with two duos: Dong Xi andKA/PO in a free, online concert on Sunday, June 20 at 7 p.m.

Dong Xi, features the combined talents of Chao Tian on Yang Qin, the Chinese hammered dulcimer, and percussion master, Tom Teasley. The duo’s name hints at the multicultural, multifaceted nature of the music: Dong Xi is Chinese for “feint to the East but attack in the West.”

KA/PO is Karen Ashbrook and her husband Paul Oorts. Karen is a teacher, performer, music therapist and an international pioneer and advocate in the revival of the hammered dulcimer. Belgian-born Paul Oorts is a multi-instrumentalist who performs with harp guitar, 10-string cittern, mandolin, and musette accordion.
