From Toronto comes a string band with seven Canadian Folk Music Awards, five Juno nominations, and a new CD, Tongue & Groove. The Andrew Collins Trio promises “state-of-the-art roots” and “a popular collision of folk, new acoustic roots, chambergrass and jazz.” The Toronto Star describes mandolinist Andrew Collins, Central Canada Bluegrass Association’s 2005 Mandolin Player of the Year, as “light of touch, fast of wit, copiously imaginative, and a musical scholar of the highest distinction.” Collins — a veteran of the Creaking Tree String Quartet and the Foggy Hogtown Boys — is joined by Mike Mezzatesta on guitar and fiddle and James McEleney on vocals, bass and mandocello.
