Alan Reid was born in Glasgow and for more than forty years was a mainstay of the celebrated Scottish folk group Battlefield Band. He helped cement the group's international reputation with his songwriting and powerful renditions of traditional song, particularly those that are strong in melody and historical content. He has been nominated for the Scots Traditions Awards in "Composer of the Year" category and contributed several pieces to the Linn Records' 12 CD collection of the entire Robert Burns song catalogue.
Rob Van Sante was born in Holland, but has lived most of his life in the north of England, where he has become a well-known figure in the English folk scene, playing with a host of folk luminaries and recording many of them in his studio in his home town of Leeds.
Alan and Rob joined forces in 2000 while still working with Battlefield Band. They both left the band in 2010, and since then have regularly toured the UK, North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. They have recorded four critically acclaimed albums, the latest of which is entitled "Rough Diamonds."
