Bob Walser (Special Event)

  • 23 Feb 2016
  • 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM
  • Janie Meneely's house (Carroll House), Takoma Park, MD
Bob Walser, the chanteyman's chantey man, will be in our area again in February for a Carroll House Concert in Takoma Park on Tuesday, February 23 7-9:30 pm. Some of you will remember Bob from a house concert he did last year at Mount Lubentia.

One of the world's leading experts on seagoing musical traditions, Bob brings a sense of humor to a lifetime of work with traditional music to his concerts. His repertoire includes shanties and sailors' songs, of course, plus pub songs, ballads, and especially songs with great choruses that invite everyone to participate.

Musician, scholar and educator Bob Walser's musical career spans decades and continents. In the early 1980s he made his living as a chanteyman (!) at the Mystic Seaport, one of the largest maritime museums in the country. Since then he has presented Folklore In Action folk music and dance programs as an artist-in-residence in schools and performed as a singer, dance leader and dance musician from Maine to California and overseas.

It's the dancing that brings Bob down this way again. His band Northern Aire will be featured at the Friday night and Sunday night dances at Glen Echo.
