Want to learn to call square dances at parties, street festivals and other dance-worthy occasions? Well, we're hosting a workshop led by Elkins, WV-based T-Claw, one of today's most talented and creative young callers!
This workshop will focus on Appalachian dance traditions. T-Claw, an experienced instructor and a square dancing force of nature, has studied with many of West Virginia's master callers.
Through hands-on activities, participants will practice the basics of square dance calling, choreography, effective teaching methods, working with kids, rhythm and rhyming patter. By the end of the session participants will have the tools needed to organize and call dances in their own communities. Free book of figures included. No prior calling experience is necessary; ages 8 and above are welcome to attend. Suggested $20, but no worries if you can't pay.
Space is limited and advance registration is required. The workshop will take place in DC's Petworth neighborhood; street address will be emailed to registrants.
