"Dear Jean, ? wrote Dan Schatz in 2014 along with Charlie Pilzer and Mick Lane, "Over the years, you have inspired and influenced generations of musicians, both through your careful preservation of the songs you grew up with and the poetry of your own pen. You gave us the crystal beauty of Now is the Cool of the Day and the raw power of The L&N Don't Stop Here Anymore. With unfailing kindness and generosity you have mentored, encouraged and laughed with us, sharing your dedication to the music and culture of the Kentucky mountains. ? These were the liner notes of a folk all-star compilation CD produced by Schatz, a Washington area native now a Pennsylvania-based recording artist and Unitarian-Universalist minister.

On May 30, 2015, Schatz returned to Washington to co-host a tribute to Jean Ritchie at the Washington Folk Festival. Two days later, the National Heritage Fellow, Fulbright Scholar, singer and dulcimer player passed away at the age of 92. Her son Jon Pickow and singers Susie Glaze and Kenny Kosek, all of whom performed on the Dear Jean recording to raise funds to help with her medical bills, join Dan at Seekers Church for a long-overdue memorial concert. $20, members $10.
