An Irish Entertainment

And on the 11th day of Christmas, the fourth day of the New Year, we will still be in partying mood?.

So we have invited Seamus Kennedy to lead the fun. Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, Seamus has been entertaining audiences around the United States for almost four decades. An accomplished guitarist with a ready wit and a vast store of songs, he honed his skills in pubs large and small, so he knows an amazing array of music ?traditional and contemporary songs of Ireland and Scotland, and American music old and new, including folk, country, bluegrass and even a little Western Swing.

His many years on the Irish/Celtic festival circuit were first influenced by the legendary Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. From them he learned the importance not only of being a solid musician and singer, but also of being an all-around entertainer. Blessed with a glorious voice, he can equally croon the old ballads and shout salty sea shanties. He is also a vivid storyteller.

Seamus is at home in small rooms, concert halls and festivals, from Alaska to Florida, from the Chesapeake Bay to the Golden Gate. He makes folks laugh, sing and be thoroughly entertained, whether in a pub, a nursing home or a kindergarten class. His strong interactive skills and his participation with his audiences have helped him create an exceptionally loyal fan base everywhere he goes.

Members of the Washington Area Music Association have voted him ?Best Irish Male Vocalist? several times, notable recognition coming from his fellow performers. He has released 14 recordings; we trust he?ll bring some, along with the book he spearheaded, with four of his musical colleagues, about their road stories, ?Clean Cabbage in the Bucket (And Other Tales from the Irish Music Trenches).?

Both respectful of the culture and an irrepressible fun guy, Seamus Kennedy will bring us a gleefully mixed bag of styles and traditions, so bring out the whole family to Knox Presbyterian Church, 7416 Arlington Blvd., Falls Church, VA 22042. Concert is free to members; general admission $15. Check out his website, seamuskennedy.com
