Hey folks! We're excited to announce that we are putting together a special square dance for all of you who'll be here over the Thanksgiving holiday. Join us for a potluck dinner and night of squares at the North Hall of Eastern Market! It's a new venue for us, but you can expect all the usual rowdy & rollicking good times.
The wonderful Nils Fredland will be calling the dances, with tunes played by Elixir - one of the hottest dance bands on the east coast. With trombone, trumpet, clarinet, guitar, and fiddle, they play tunes from Irish, New England, and Quebecois traditions.
Our square dances at St. Stephens are generally held in the southern Appalachian style, with old-time string band music and many traditional Southern figures. However, there are other square dancing traditions in America, too, including New England and French-Canadian dances with their own distinct moves and music. This dance is an opportunity to experience some of those other marvelous traditions.
The potluck will be from 7 to 8 pm and dance from 8:30 to 11:30 pm. Come for either or both! Feel free to unload your twenty extra servings of green bean casserole on us! Please also bring a plate and utensils.
As always, no experience or partner required! All the dances will be taught and called.

The North Hall is part of the big Eastern Market building - use the entrance on the North Carolina Ave side. It's a short walk from the Eastern Market metro stop on the Orange and Blue lines. If you're driving in, there is street parking available, but we encourage you to walk, bike, carpool or metro if possible!
